To all customers and suppliers. On Monday evening, following the Prime Minister’s broadcast we took the decision to follow Government advise to temporarily close, apart from a skeleton staff who, because of earlier medical advice, were already working from home. This decision was taken despite much soul searching and a willingness from our incredible staff to carry on. Since then, many conflicting news reports have caused us to question and agonize whether we are doing the right thing, and several times we have been moments away from reversing the decision. The latest of those, was this morning, on seeing other businesses, some similar to ourselves continuing to work with staff in the premises, no doubt with the best intentions and applying precautions. Almost immediately, I saw a tweet from another Member of Parliament, which read as follows: - John McDonnell MP @johnmcdonnellMP Reports pouring into MPs of businesses ignoring lockdown & forcing workers to work, putting them at risk of Covid 19 & spreading it. They are putting all our lives at risk by their greed. The Gvt must act to shut them down & the media should be naming & shaming.#phoneylockdown https://twitter.com/BBCr4today/status/1243078866689839106 BBC Radio 4 Today @BBCr4today Rachel Reeves - chair of @CommonsBEIS - says they are hearing reports many companies are "carrying on with business as usual...but we need to be making huge changes in the way we work if we're to slow or halt the spread of this virus". #R4Todayhttps://bbc.in/33JR1cT After considering any possible political bias, I now believe we have taken the right decision. We have a duty to protect our staff, our suppliers and our loyal, hardworking customers and their families. The stark reality is that by universally supporting the action to limit the spread of Covid-19 the sooner we can start the massive rebuilding of companies and family life. Your normal contacts are available to help or advise, where we possibly can, on their usual mobile numbers. These and a list of other contact email addresses are on our website: www.cheshireturfmachinery.co.uk . We are continuing to process parts orders, where our suppliers are able to send by carrier direct to the customer. We will update the web pages with any development. In my 43 years of working in this fantastic industry, the last 10 days have been truly awful and just a few weeks ago, the thought of not going to work was simply unthinkable. I hope you understand our decision and the reasoning behind it. Our sincere wish is to be back at full capacity as soon as we can and look forward to working with you in the near future. In the meantime, please accept the best wishes of all the team at Cheshire Turf Machinery and we hope you and your family stay healthy. Kind regards, Steve Halley. Steve Halley. Managing Director.
